Hans Sachetti: Folk art - whether in America or elsewhere, also known as Naive Art, - is art - painting, sculpture, crafts of all sorts, that are produced by people who have developed their skills themselves without any training (maybe passed from father to son). But making soap scrimshaws are (see the text above).According to a Sotheby's expert on folk art, Duck Decoys are definitely American folk art. "They were being made even before the white man came to our shores." The reference is to the decoys that Native Americans used to snag birds.
