Art is a way to .....?

Soraya Coodey: I would also say that art is a way to 'communicate'. I happen to be play acoustic guitar. I write songs ang lyrics in mainly the folk and rock styles. Yet I also enjoy ... and get many ideas from ... listening to and playing along with composers from hundreds of years ago, such as Beethoven and lute composers/players during the Baroque and Elizabethan eras.Yes, they were expressing themselves ... but what's *really* wonderful is that communicates a message to *me*, 200 or 300 years later.The same is true for the visual arts. I've seen the ancient cave paintings at Lascaux, France and Australian aboriginal art, and I really like the what the ancient Egyptians did with their art and symbology. (and tons more from all sorts of places).Art is expression ~ and communication.It's the same with literature or the 'written word', which is a form of art. It expresses ideas ~ and it communicates ideas ... across thousands of years, in some cases. Just going back a mer! e 400 years, of course you have heard of, and possibly read, or even seen a movie version of, Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet'.
