Julieta Suleiman: No if you are talking about a personal vehicle. You have to be a business owner to deduct these kinds of expenses. The vehicle has to be leased in the name of the business.
Rona Espalin: If you use the car for work, but not simply commuting to and fromwork, you can deduct depreciation, repairs, maintenance and gas according to a complicated set of rules. Or you can deduct a certain amount per mile as set by the IRS each year. I don't know the exact amount this year. I think it is about 48 cents per mile or close to that.
Bettye Arre: If you use the car for commuting from home to work, those miles aren't deductible. Other mileage for work is a valid expense on your schedule C if you are self employed, or might be a valid itemized deduction on Schedule A if you are an employee. Lease expense can be part of the deduction if you take actual expenses rather than the flat mileage rate which is 55 cents a mile for 2009.
Todd Stogner: If y! ou are an employee, the business use would be a schedule A deduction.
Marna Liddie: I guess it can be written as itemized deduction on Schedule A if you are an employee you know. You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 they should be able to help.
