Cole Desher: There aren't any secrets to car maintenance (that I know of). If you stick to the maintenance schedule or intervals in the owners manual it should last for a long time. If you don't have it and don't want to pay the dealers for a new one you can buy a Haynes manual for your car which provides the maintenance schedule and intervals also and tells you how to do them yourself. Reputable car companies spend millions upon millions upon million of dollars to design cars and those engineers will know what's best for them. And they tell you what the car needs in the manual. With that said, regular oil changes are good and I believe diesels need their timing belt changed quite a lot earlier than gas cars because the timing belt drives the high pressure injectors (refer to manual for when to change it). And if they timing belt breaks the pistons might hit the valves, bend the valves and essentially ruin the engine.Hope this helped....Show more
