Is it okay for a vegetarian to eat cheese and eggs?

Mitchell Pickens: Neither vegans or vegetarians need a vitamin or supplement, as long as they are eating a well researched and well balanced diet. Eating a blend of whole grains (buckwheat, millet, quinoa, flax, amaranth, etc), leafy greens, fruits, vegetables , beans, legumes, pulses, lentils, starches, etc. will ensure that your friend gets all she needs nutritionally. The more obscure vitamins, such as B12 and iron that most people get from animal sources, can easily be found in such things as unsulphored molasses, nutritional yeast, grains, etc. It requires a good deal of research to learn the proper way to eat a vegan diet-but the results are astounding. Too many people just worry about giving up the animal products and by products, but don't do the research on what to replace those things with. Balance is the key to ANY diet, and learning about it in full before taking it on is the best way to make sure all your dietary needs are met. Its quite likely that you! r friend got sick simply from "detoxing" from the standard diet she was on-it takes time for the body to clear out years worth of built up toxins. Many people think they are "sick" from the lack of nutrients, but that is usually not the case, unless they are just pigging out on junk food that is unhealthy to begin with. Perhaps your friend might benefit from a trip to the library before trying again. I hope she doesn't get discouraged too quickly....Show more

Elfreda Grossen: was her illness related to diet or something else? We still get sick being vegan, and we can still have poor diets if we are not careful. But everything you can ever require is found in vegetables. I can only imagine a vegan who eats properly becoming nutrient deficient if they cannot digest their food properly. This will occur in rare cases when people develop enzyme deficiency, but this is remedied by taking liquid vegetable enzymes as a supplement. This can even cure people of their food al! lergies in some cases.

Brenton Cornwall: i take these vi! tamins. they work really good. before i started to take them i became ill as well. i am not sure what they are called but when i found out i will get back to you!

Craig Virani: so catholics are not allowed to eat any type of meat that includes poultry and beef... but is fish okay to eat? fish is scientificly classify as a type of meat yet bibicly its not.. according to some record your not suppose to eat that day other claim bread and water should do for the day...however the problem arises when fish comes into play... is it a muscle of the fish categorising it as meat or is it just biblical stuff that fish could only be consume freely b/c that is all the poor could afford back then for easy acces in contrast to hunting down an animal with expensive gear....this does not relate to vegetarians since 1) not all of them are catholics 2) uhm they are in no way realated what so ever only b/c of the phrase " i am vegeterain, i dont' eat meat"...Show more

Nikki Sypult! : Fish is an animal, just like all animals (which include humans) they have flesh and muscle tissue which is considered meat, and some people eat it. In the biblical times fish and other sea animals were not considered on the same levels as other land animals due to looking different; as well land animals were not considered on the same levels as human animals due to looking different; as well certain human animals were not considered on the same levels as other human animals due to looking and being different; A lot of that unfortunately still applies today. Catholics have a wide confusing contradicting range of beliefs, one of their beliefs is that Jesus (who they think is God) ate fish (although many things contradict this), so therefore it is okay to eat.And yes, not all vegetarians are Catholic and vice versa....Show more

Gilberto Cratin: We get our required nutrients by eating food, just like you do. Was there a particular nutrient you were concerned with?

Curtis Josef: and also i am laying of the eggs..but not the milk..i! s that ok?

Dorethea Beaston: weell, ive been thinking for the past month about becoming a vegeterian, i cants stand what is happening to the cows, turkey, chicken, etc,. well..today is my first day as a vegeterian...but i dont know what to do( please give me tips or info!) , eat, i mean.i havent eaten nothing scared i might eat something i shouldn't....and if you can tell me what to eat it will be grea( something with a lot of protein cause i do kickboxing)t, and i have both support from my parents...for me this is a big change, and i want to do it, i really want to make this change.thanks!!!>....Show more

Benny Stehno: you can eat cheese, milk and eggs, even fish if you want. they were mixed up, vegan is no animal by products.

Myriam Hetjonk: Yes, it's a vegan that can't eat milk and eggs... but it's not so much that they can't... it's that they choose not too. So the question is whether you think it's ok to eat milk and eggs or not.

Giovanni Malool:! there are different types of vegitarians..some do allow and some dont

Elinore Schlinker: I ask this being sincerely curious, because one of my friends recently tried to go completely vegan, but ended up ill, so went back to just vegetarian.I know the difference between vegetarian and vegan is that vegetarians dont eat meat, but vegans dont eat animal by-products either. So, with that being said, how do you personally get your required nutrients to healthily function? i know there's a nutritional supplement for everything these days, but there's got to be something better than that.Thanks!...Show more

Verena Koop: I agree with you, from what i know about it, a vegetarian just doesn't eat meat....a vegan is a person that will not eat any animal product such as meat, eggs and milk......

Adrian Sherlin: You're asking in the vegetarian section. We are going to tell you that yes, indeed, fish is meat. Vegetarians do not eat animals. However, you're trying to br! ing religion into it. If you know the religious view is different than ! the vegetarian view, why ask it here? Ask in the religion section.

Debora Rinderer: is fish some sort of meat?Yes. I'll not get into the fantasy portion.**

Eliseo Luma: Fish is in meat if you like to eat it, is better than other meat because it is found clean invirment not like other meat which you don't know what kind of food the meat farmers feed their animals.

Jacques Vaquera: yeah... its vegans that eat no animal products

Horace Escue: Vegetarianism and Catholicism have nothing to do with each other. Vegetarians don't eat animals; fish are animals. If the Catholic church wants to give people a pass to eat fish, that's their business. But they don't define vegetarianism and they don't inform my diet in any fashion.

Luke Creitz: Yes Cesar fish are a type of meat. The Jewish consider them pareve which is neither meat nor dairy. Perhaps this is why the Catholics have not considered them to be meat. The bible is full of contradictions of! itself and that is only one. If you are vegetarian then I wouldn't worry about it, just have yourself a nice vegetable based meal.

Shawnna Kusky: Ovo vegetarians eat eggsLacto vegetarians eat dairyOvo-locto vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy Pure vegetarians don't eat any animal byproducts

Charline Granes: Who cares? If you're comfortable eating eggs and milk (and assuming you like the way they taste) it shouldn't actually matter if it follows by THE STRICT CODE OF THE VEGETARIAN.Because there isn't actually a STRICT CODE OF THE VEGETARIAN. Nobody is that nit-picky about it....Show more

Buster Exline: Because she obviously did not research how to eat properly. There is no nutrient, vitamin or mineral that anyone can name which can not be obtained from a vegan diet. I am a guy and have been vegan for about a year. I eat correctly and I feel amazing. Feeling much more energy, stamina and viabrance. I am also an athlete. I play varsity baseball and fo! otball. visit http://www.meat.org/ to see first hand.also, visit www.g! oveg.org to understand why exactly a vegetarian/vegan diet is so great!

Maynard Phoubandith: It's up to the individual. If you are a vegetarian for the animal's sake then you should rethink drinking milk and eating eggs. Look up factory farms and learn about the treatment of dairy cows and calves and the conditions that battery hens are kept in. Learn about how they are de-beaked and their toes are cut off. Learn about what happens to the male chicks that won't grow up to be laying hens. Even on "organic" and/or "free range" farms cruelty is a daily fact of life for the animals....Show more

Lavelle Viveiros: I'm a vegetarian and you can eat eggs, cheese, and drink milk.

Clifford Riggleman: yeah i think it's ok

Wilburn Denice: I'm sorry your friend had that experience. Some new vegans have trouble meeting their caloric needs because they are only aware of low-calorie vegan foods like salads and vegetables. To have a healthy vegan diet, a person should! eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains. Vegans also need to have a reliable source of vitamin B12, either by taking a supplement or eating fortified foods (like some soymilks and cereals).More info:Vegan sources of protein, iron, and calcium:http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/?v=08sourcesThe four vegan food groups:http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/food_groups...

Jose Bouliouris: Meat could be described as the flesh of any living animal. So in a way fish is meat or the flesh of a fish. Vegans if I understood correctly don't eat meat because they feel it is cruel to kill animals for food or to process their hides. As far as being catholic I remember when I was little we ate eggs, fish or beans on Fridays. However as I grew older we would eat meat on Fridays too, my mother said the pope said it was alright to eat meat on Fridays even holy Fridays.

Jonelle Eligio: Yes, vegetarians can eat milk and eggs. The only thing you need to look out for is rennet or enz! ymes that are in some cheeses. These are made from the lining of a calf's stomach after it is killed and those cheeses are not vegetarian. My rule of thumb is if it killed an animal I won't eat it. So no gelatin, meat, lard, etc but cheese, milk and honey are fine....Show more

Lourie Mcroberts: Eggs are vegetarian and cheese without rennet is vegetarian.

Efren Clankscales: A Vegan diet is something that should be handled carefully... If you are not careful you could end up ill. That being said however...Vegans that properly plan their diets are healthier and a lot more compassionate than "carnivores" and even vegetarians. All the nutrients that vegetarians and carnivores can get vegans can get as well.

Dee Depung: you can milk and eggs as a vegetarian. just no meat.vegan is trying as much as you can to not support the exploitation of animals.

Asley Quickle: If you want to give up the best sources of complete protein go ahead. If it's worth depriving ! yourself of nurishing food and you don't mind possibly hurting your hea! lth, by all means become a vegetarian.

Jamika Gregorio: I don't know what's wrong with your friend but she obviously didn't know what she was doing. I went vegan five years ago after being veg for a year and I've never had to go back. You give us no idea of what her illness was which is irresponsible if you expect us to respond to it.These people seem to be handling it wellhttp://www.veganbodybuilding.com/?page=biosB12 is the ONLY nutrient that people MIGHT have problems consuming on a vegan diet. Vegan B12 supplement are easy to find and most people that eat meat can be measured at some level of B12 deficiency so most anyone should take a supplement anyway.I think that these people have a little authority on the issuehttp://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/ad...

Caterina Yeargan: fish are considered to be parve, neither meat nor a dairy food. The Catholic dietary restriction to "meat" on Fridays also does not apply to the cooking and eating of fish.
